About the Author
Erik D. Andrulis, Ph.D., is a former tenure-track assistant professor in the Department of Molecular Biology and Microbiology at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine (CWRU). Dr. Andrulis’s scientific training includes a Bachelor of Science in molecular genetics at the University of Rochester, predoctoral research at the National Cancer Institute, a doctorate in biochemistry and molecular biology at Stony Brook University, postdoctoral work at Cornell University, and, finally, a faculty appointment at CWRU.
Dr. Andrulis is the author of 22 peer-reviewed publications—including two papers in Nature, one in Science, and one in Molecular Cell—and the recipient of grant funding from the National Institutes of Health (a National Research Service Award and an R01), the American Cancer Society, the American Federation for Aging Research, and the Mt. Sinai Health Foundation.
In 2011, he published “Theory of the Origin, Evolution, and Nature of Life,” a widely read theoretical work addressing large-scale organization across physical and biological systems. As of October 2026, this paper has been viewed almost 130,000 times, downloaded over 100,000 times, and ranks in the top 5% of over 50 million research outputs tracked by Altmetric.
Dr. Andrulis currently serves as President and Executive Director of an established nonprofit organization in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
He is a proud alumnus of St. Albans School and a former chorister in the Washington National Cathedral Choir, where he spent seven years as a soprano in purple cassock, white surplice, and ruff, singing the Magnificat, Nunc dimittis, and traditional hymns.
